About Monique

Monique von Scheven is an independent educational consultant and the founder of College Prep Marin. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and the UC Berkeley Professional Certificate in College Admission & Career Planning. Monique has worked with students from all backgrounds and with varied interests and passions. The diverse range of intellectual and personal pursuits of Monique's students is reflected by the colleges to which they have been accepted. She has donated her time and expertise to individual students as well as various non-profit organizations such as ScholarMatch, SHE-CAN, 10,000 Degrees and College Dream Team.

College Prep Marin works with a limited number of families in order to give prompt, personal attention to each student. Monique is committed to helping each student identify colleges that are the best matches, academically, socially and financially. Her goal is to inspire and empower students throughout the college search and application process by providing them with expert guidance and the tools necessary to present their best selves in all parts of their applications. Through collaboration and structured support, the anxiety and stress inherent in this journey of self-discovery can be minimized.

As a former Vice President at a major investment firm in San Francisco, Monique has significant experience in professional writing, research, marketing and finance. Knowing how to effectively communicate strengths to colleges through essays, how to best conduct research, how colleges market and brand themselves and how to approach the financial piece of the college equation are all areas of Monique's expertise.

Monique has personally toured over 100 colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad and continues to do so. She attends local, regional and national conferences to stay current with admission trends and requirements.
